This is interesting. If the vice president’s wife is the second lady that could cause confusion. Say for example Hillary becomes president. Does that make Bill the first lady or the first man. If he is the first lady then the vice president’s wife becomes the second lady. If he is the first man, then the vice president’s wife is the first lady. The only way this works is if Hillary dumps Bill and picks up a gay wife. Then we could restore a first lady and the second lady.

Yes. It’s because the President’s wife bears the title of First Lady (most important woman). Therefore the Vice-President’s wife is second to the President’s wife.
