Is speeded really a word?

Someone typed me a letter saying that “…the meeting is just going to be speeded up.” Is that ok? Why wouldn’t this person use “sped”? It’s really bothering me. I don’t know if I should correct this person, because the word speeded is in the dictionary.

Both, on a technicality, are correct, but speeded is no longer used. When writing, if it sounds wrong, it usually is.

No, it is improper usage. SPED is the past tense of speed.

Nope, the word is “Speed”…..n A past tense and a past participle of speed is ‘Sped’……..Wen ‘Speed’ is used as a verb, they call it ‘Speeded’………which is not a word!!!!
