however is a run-on word in a sentence, what would be a better way to make a transition without using however?

for instance the sentence ” The author states that love is an important aspect to all success, however we need…”

The however was considered a run-on…what would be a better way to make the transition.?

I don’t think it would be a run-on if you wrote it like this:

The author states that love is an important aspect to all success; however, we need….

Or, you can make it into two sentences:

The author states that love is an important aspect to all success. However, we need….

Or, you could use another word entirely…would this work:

Although the author states that love is an important aspect to all success, we need….

Hope that helps!

We need the entire entire sentence so your intended meaning is preserved.

From what you did include, it sounds like you could use the word “Although” to begin the sentence. (However, it is not clear whether the sentence is intended to communicate that “Although the author states x, we need y” or that “The author states that although we need x, we also need y,” or something else altogether.)

Also, as an aside, the word “however” would work if you changed the punctuation, and changed the comma that precedes the word “however” with a semicolon.

Try using a semi colon to seperate two sentences. 😛

I’m pretty sure you can start a new sentence with However. I do not think there are run-on words, only run-on sentences.

You can start a sentence with But, And Unless, With etc. However, some teachers might mark you down for this. Check with your teacher.

“While the author states that love is an important aspect to all success, we need . . .”

Get rid of the however and use a semicolon IF the second part of the statement could stand alone as a sentence.
