Whichever makes the most sense. There’s a rule of thumb that let’s you use from 3 to 8 sentences within a paragraph. But even that rule can be stretched. If you’re writing a paper, don’t worry about where to place paragraphs. Just let the paper flow, and your paragraphs will come automatically. Get used to the idea of starting a new paragraph whenever you introduce a new idea or a new argument to a topic. Make sure to use phrases or words to connect paragraphs.

That’s probably more than you wanted to hear…sorry, couldn’t help it

good luck!

Wow!

(New paragraph)

It all depends on what you’re writing about. The statement “Wow” can be a paragraph in itself if used right. It would depend on what came before to cause the “Wow” and what comes after. Believe me there is no set rule on how many sentences needed before you begin a new paragraph. What matters is the way it flows. Usually though, there are three to five sentences in a paragraph but again it depends on what you are writing. Pick up any book and you’ll get a better idea.

Good luck.

A paragraph can be one or more sentences. There is no rule as to how many sentences are allowed in a paragraph. You change paragraphs when you transition to another thought.

A paragraph completes a thought, and a new paragraph leads the reader into the new thought.

Therefore, this writing has two paragraphs, even though the second is only one sentence.

Are you asking how many sentences are needed to begin a paragraph? A paragraph begins with one sentence, but you need about 4 sentences to be in a paragraph.

One sentence may count a paragraph, but keep in mind that a new paragraph often denotes a new topic or point to make. In this sense, a sentence will vary from one sentence to ten. It depends on your intent.

Depends upon what medium you’re writing for. For written hard copy, 3-7. If you’re writing for a website, short paragraphs are more scannable. For academic papers, longer paragraphs look good. For memos, short paragraphs, even one sentence. But be careful — you don’t want your work to look too choppy.

Even one sentence may constitute a paragraph.

Start a new paragraph each time you introduce a new idea.
