x/5 = 2x-6

x = 5(2x-6)

x = 10 x – 30

30 = 9x

x = 30/9

x = 10/3

First multiply both sides by 5 to remove the left denom.

5(x/5) = 5(2x-6)

so

x=10x-30

subtract 10x from both sides to move all x’s on left side

x = 10x-30

-10x -10x

so

-9x = -30

then divide by -9 on both sides to isolate x and remove negative

-9x = -30

___ ___

-9 -9

and

x = 10/3 or 3 and 1/3

but math teachers like improper fractions, not mixed numbers

x/5=2x-6

move 5 to the right hand side(rhs), because 5 is divided on the lhs, it will be multiply at the rhs

so,

x= 5*(2x-6)

x= 10x-30

move 30 to the lhs and x to the rhs,

30=10x-x

rearrange the equation

10x-x=30

9x=30

x=30/9

simplify the answer.

x/5=2x-6

Multiply both sides by 5

x=5(2x-6)

x=10x-30

x-10x=10x-10x-30

-9x=-30

-9x/-9=-30/-9

x=3 3/9=3 1/3

first, get X on one side by subtracting 2x from both

-2x + x / 5 = -6

divide both sides by 5

-2x + x = -6 / 5

simplify by combining like terms

-x = -1.2

divide both sides by -1 to change sign

x=1.2
