“Not only can you do this, but you can also do that” or “Not only can you do this, but you can also do that as well.”

Do you need the “as well”?

The sentence is wrong in either form. You should be saying:

You can do not only this, but also that.

It is immaterial whether you add ‘as well’.

‘Not only’ and ‘but also’ should be used directly in front of the word or phrase to which they refer.

This doesn’t answer the question but, it’s kind of funny to see Grammar questions on Y!A considering the lack of it in the posted questions.

No, you don’t need “as well” because “also” serves the same purpose. It’s redundant and sounds bad.

BTW, when you use the phrase starting with “Not only…” you should start the second part with “but also…”, although it’s not absolutely required.

No you dont need the “as well” because you put the “also” in there if you didnt have the “also” you would need the “as well” with both of them it works also and it sounds more intelligent to say “as well” so if you want to sound smart use that.

As well mean you wanted to convince the person you are talking to that you can do this too not only that , it’s more strong than only using also………that’s my opinion

You don’t nessecarily need the “as well” but it might make more sense to the person you are conversing with.

But grammatically, no.

If you’re using the word “also,” you don’t need “as well.”
