For all you Wordsmiths..?
What would be the (if there is one) the true Abbreviation for the name ‘Cordelia’, I know its meaning, but some people (Like myself) use ‘Cordi’ or ‘Cordie’ as her nickname.
What I want to know is which one is true, accurate (in English, British) terms. What’s the right nickname? Cordy?, Cordie or ??
Thanks for the (genuine) answers..

Names do not, in general, have “correct” abbreviations. Some popular names have common and accepted nicknames (e.g. “Bill” for “William”, “Tom” for “Thomas”, etc.) but it is each person’s choice whether or not to accept such a name (a person named William can simply refuse to answer to Bill). Certainly, a name as unique as Cordelia will have no common nickname — call her whatever she prefers.

I guess it depends on Cordelia. She may not want a nickname or abbreviation of her name. And some may want to go by Cord or Cordie, and others by Delia. And if she wants to be called something else, she’ll say, oh, just call me Cord/Cordie/Delia.

The nickname that I know of for Cordelia is “Delia”. I have never heard Cordy or Cordie. That doesn’t make it wrong, just uncommon.
