A Simile is defined as: Comparing two unlike things with “like” or “as.”
A Metaphor is defined as: A term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance; or a Comparison
1. Felt like someone was banging a hammer on her head. Since the word “like” is in the sentence and is comparing two unlike things, it is a simile.
2. But this week was different it went by as if it was a month long. Since the word “as” is in the sentence and is also comparing two unlike things, it is also a simile.

A simile uses the words “like” or “as”.
So, they’re both similes.

“Like” and “as” (or as if) make a simile.
