The Sentence is : “When we lived in Clovelly we used to/would have a car” . Which is the correct choice and why.. please help out

well for this… correct choice is TO
when we lived in Clovelly we used to have a car
we use would for future reference, for example, if we say:
when we will live in Covelly we would have a car

But ‘When we lived in Clovelly we had a car.’ would be better, since the fact that ‘lived’ is past tense makes ‘used to’ tautologous.
