Do you know this phrase: “I spell what you’re stepping in”?
I grew up assuming that everyone knows this phrase and what it means. I used it once as a joke a few weeks ago and NO ONE had ever heard it before! Am I the only one?
(by the way, it means about the same thing as “i catch your drift” or “i’m picking up what you’re throwing down” — in short, “I get it”)

It’s “I SMELL what you’re stepping in” You have the meaning right though. it’s like “I get your drift ” or “I’m pick”in up what you’re lay’in down” Don’t worry, everyone mis-words a phrase now & then! My sister & I both use this one all the time, so yeah, I’m smell’in what you’re step’in in!
