Yes, it is correct, although a little formal, “to write to” is more common than “to correspond with”.

Yes, you have used it quite correctly. If, however, you just don’t like the wording, you could use the word ‘liaise’ instead. This way the emphasis is not merely on written contact but any sort, by phone, email, fax or in person.
