Depends on your state. Most do not require either. But check your state law to be sure. (Most states have copies of their laws available online now, so it is easy to check.)

I know that my state’s law specifically says that there are no educational requirements of the parent.

And I know that research shows that the parent’s educational level really doesn’t make much difference in the achievement of the child when the child is homeschooled; usually, the parent’s education improves greatly as the parent works on educating the child because teaching a subject forces one to learn it much better. And some parents are then motivated to go back and get a degree because they know that they now have a much better education than they got in school. So it can work to the advantage of both the parent and the child.

Homeschooling is about supervising (which is being a parent) and picking materials to use.

I mean, you aren’t going to school from your head in all subjects are you?!

If so and without going to a reference source, tell us about the Mercantile system, please!

Otherwise you will get a book and it will have that in the book.

Brick school:

Teachers (BA degree + Ed studies + Student Teaching + Praxis Test) take roll

Home school required in some areas only done by parent (no formal education required or needed)

Brick schools:

Teachers follow course outlines by state board of education using a book approved by the state writtne by Doctorates teaching college.

home school:

Parent in charge picks and chooses from existing offerings generally written by or edited by Doctorates teaching college

Outline of course study is determined automatically by the offering picked by the parent.

Brick schools

Teachers devise tests based on samples in books or supplied work sheets. Teacher edition includes all answers.

Homeschool

Tests are often done at end of book, sometimes these must be turned into the publisher (e.g. Penn Foster) by mail for grading. sometimes parents have teacher editions with answers so they can grade the tests

Brick school

Teacher edition books have questions and prompts to ask the students at the end of each chapter along with guildlines and prompts as to what responses are the most important.

Home school

At the end of some programs is a review with questions.

Some of these must be sent to the publisher, sometimes tne parents get teacher editions and can evaluate this based on what is shown in the book.

Now

Do you really think one needs a BA + Education courses + Student Teachng + Praxis test (fee required) to do what has been outlined?

Strikes me Big Sister can do most of that!

I mean it’s not like YOU or the BRICK SCHOOL TEACHER has to WRITE the book!

Yes. Most states require a high school diploma or GED to homeschool your child. If you do not have this, you can have a tutor for your child. Go to your county’s homestudy office and they will give you the information you need.

Each state has different requirements for homeschooling children. I am a public school teacher, and many times students who re-enter public schools after being home-schooled lack even the most basic skills that they need to enter college or the workplace. Many parents who think that they are protecting their children often do them a great disservice by attempting to educate their children themselves. Very few people are well-rounded enough academically to provide their children with the kind educational preparation that they need.

Go to your superintendents office and ask for a copy of the state homeschool laws. This will have the answer.

Don’t take anyones word for it, get the truth in writing.

All states are different on this.

I don’t think it matters. But if it does I would say a G.E.D is good enough! Good luck!

No. But you do need a decent education; you cannot teach what you do not know.
