Confusion. Catholics or etymologists please help.?

To be apostate is to renounce one’s religion, and act against it.

But the Pope resides in the Apostolic Palace.

What’s going on here?

“apostat” derives from the ancient greek words “apo”(από=from)+ “istamai”(ίσταμαι=I stand) meaning I stand away from sth, I separate myself from sth.

“apostle, apostolic” derives from the words “apo”(από=from)+ stello(στέλλω=I send) that means “I am on a mission, I am sent to achieve sth”. In the case of Pope, the mission is Christ’s teaching.

The root word for apostate is apostasia (desertion) while apostolic originated from apostolos( one sent forth; messenger). The Apostolic palace is right for the Pope.
