Can anyone explain what the word Jilt means?
there is only one definition I found on google and I need to know what the word means for an assignment.

It means to be abandoned, esp. at the alter. The jilted one is generally very surprised at the abandonment.

I don’t think ‘jalted’ is a word, but I can help you with the others! Engulfed – almost like swallowing something, so white blood cells engulf antibodies for example. Yanked – to pull suddenly with force, so you can yank a chain or a rope. Devouring – many meanings really – could mean eating, so you could be devouring your food, can be consuming something (and consuming has many meanings too). Gasped – a sudden intake of breath in shock or surprise, for example, the lady gasped when she heard the news. Accustomed – when you’re used to something, for example, they are accustomed to the lifestyle. You said jalted – did you mean Jilted? Jilted is when a lover leaves you, and usually refers to when you leave your partner at the altar when you’re supposedly getting married, so you could be a jilted bride, for example.
