As long as they can pass the tests and are deemed safe for driving. They may also have to take more reexaminations at the DMV’s discretion. The also applys to disabled and older people.

Yes they can get a license. Autistic people are often very smart and sometimes extremely gifted at something. For my brother, the hardest part of his autism was the social aspect. Many of his “friends” were too cool once they went to high school. After feeling rejected by so many of his peers, he put up a protective barrier and gave up on socializing altogether. Luckily he has two best friends, myself and another person his age, who love him for who he is. Right now he goes to NC State and majors in mathematics. I am soo proud of him!

They can get a license if they go to take the test and pass. I’ll tell you what is hard for even the higher functioning ones. Putting up with unexpected things that they can’t control, resisting the compulsion to test themselves on things they’re afraid to do, explaining themselves to officers who pull them over, keeping calm. They may never or rarely get lost while driving, but almost fall asleep or wreck coz they are mesmerized by something they see out the window.
