Will not having any work experience damage my chances of getting into college?

All of the applications so far ask for “work experience” but I have none! I’ve got a lot of extracurriculars and nearly straight A’s…. how much importance do colleges generally place on work experience?

I’ve never really seen a case where that’s a big deal. . . I think most colleges just ask since a lot of people have had jobs at some point earlier, and having managed that extra workload might help them out in explaining why they *don’t* have so many extra-curriculars and as good of grades as you might.

I didn’t have any work experience either almost a decade ago when I started college. . . just an very good GPA, some assorted high school clubs, and several college summer programs for geeky high school students. Not only did I have no problem getting in somewhere, but I also never owed the unversity anything out of my own pocket for 4 years due to a nice scholarship package that had nothing to do with either financial need or athletics.

In other words, don’t be afraid about not having any work experience?

Generally, no but there might be some colleges who may want to know more about your “work” background. This should be a big deal so don’t be afraid to check the “No work experience” checkbox.
