Why are some lines of Alpha Kappa Alpha so large?

I have notice in doing my research that there are some schools that have as many as 90 girls on a single line. I was just wondering why that is and would doing so make the experience less personal as far as getting to know your line members.

Well, the reason some chapters have such large lines is:

HBCU (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) have a lot more African-American ladies who meet the qualifications; therefore, more ladies are initiated . . . probably, you will discover that phenomenon once you do a little more research. Also, the young ladies who are initiated into Alpha Kappa Alpha get to know each others when they actively assist the community. I think that is a better way to judge a person’s character than senseless, inhumane, incomprehensible hazing or being ‘on line.’ Hazing is a senseless way to welcome a new member into Alpha Kappa Alpha. Why would I call you sister and you hit me or made me feel inferior? Hazing has nothing to do with serving the community.

Its called an intake procedure. Because this is not the old days and physically pledging/hazing is outlawed. It only takes studying information and taking tests to becoming a part of the organization.

Some may dispute but I can guarantee you, there is no way to pledge and have a line of 90. I promise you unless they were previously friends, the #12 has no idea who there #49 is!!

Fabulous!
My guess would be that there are a lot of qualified ladies which is the reason certain chapters have a large intake.
