When applying to a college, are you REQUIRED to post any other colleges you went to, or can you just leave it?

I went to a college once and I was going through a bad phase then, so I flunked the first semester then dropped out.

Now I want to apply to a different college, but I don’t want to put my first college in there at all. I just want to put my highschool information- my highschool transcript and ACT was great.

Can I do that or is it illegal?

If it asks you to put any other colleges you went to…you have to put it or risk honor violations if they find out later. You could even get kicked out….and that would be terrible after starting over and doing well.

I do not think that it is illegal to do it, however the college you are applying to will find out. They will check your ssn and see that you attended a college previously-and if you fail to include it on your application, it could count against you, they might think you are trying to hide something. Many college apps will give you a place to add any additional information or comments-in this section I would explain your reasons for leaving the school you were at (not the right fit, or school for you, or you were simply not ready for school, something like that) and then explain that you have seen the need for a higher education and are excited at the opportunity to pursue a degree. Being completely upfront about your previous educational history is admirable, especially when it contains something you maybe aren’t so proud of-however college admissions counselors will feel better about accepting you if you are honest and upfront about everything than if you attempt to hide it (and remember they will find out anyway!)

It is awesome that you have decided to go back to school, and good luck with everything!
