I don’t have a lot of regrets, but I wish I had gone away for college. I stayed close to home for college, but would visit my boyfriend at his campus. I also wish I had dated more people in college instead of being in a serious relationship the whole time. But I met all of my goals professionally and personally. My best advice would be really consider what you want to do as a career, by thinking about what you enjoy doing most. You’ll be going to a job every day, so you need to enjoy what you’re doing. When you do graduate and get a job don’t make any big purchases. A lot of people run out and buy a new car or some other splurge. My husband and I saved our money for two years while we rented an apartment and then were able to buy some land and build our home long before most people our age could afford to buy a house.

I honestly have no regrets about my college or my career. I guess I was one of the rare individuals that knew what college to go to and for what major. I knew I wanted to be in business, found the right path first in my community college, then transferred to the nearby university to finish it out in Finance. Since then I’ve established my career for over 2 years now and things are going great (currently wrapping up my second major in fact) . Kind of non-exciting I know hehe.

I guess I also don’t have any regrets because I never really bothered with the whole social stuff during college. Much like in high school it was just about schooling for me, with all the parties, hookups, games, bars, clubs, dates, and so on never really interesting me. They seemed more like unnecessary distractions to me. If something like the above mentioned happened then it happened, otherwise I just went on about my schooling.

If you feel stressed about not having your own goals try talking to anyone around you who already has their career established, or who just graduated from their university, and see what they have to tell you. There’s no better teacher than experience, and hearing what they have to say could really help you out. Also try visiting various official places of business that interest you and ask if you could spend half a day with them. This way you can officially see what a career in that field will be like, and who knows some new passion might grow out of this. Most places and people (especially professionals) will be happy to assist you during those hours, as they’ll see it as a great sign of flattery to have somebody interested in seeing what they do career-wise.
