Sounds like you’re well on your way to “failure to launch”.

Home with Mom and Dad till your 35 or 40. OR you could decide you are in control of your life and that your opportunities are limitless. Your choice.

You need to lean more about yourself (you’re too young to know what you want for sure). THis means putting yourself in as many different situations as possible to find out what you enjoy and what you’re good at. The trick is to blend what you’re good at with what ou enjoy – but thats for your mid-30’s.

You’ve got to commit to do 4 things:

1) Believe in yourself. Without a positive attitude you’ll continue to drift.

2) Commit to working as hard and as smart as you can. You’ll find out how much of your life your career will be. For some enter the office at 8 and leave it all at 5 and never look back. For others they never leave the office, even when they’re not there they are still there mentally. You gotta figure out where you are in that.

3) Become as patient and as flexible as you can be

4) Never stop learning. Learn about people, learn how to listen, learn how to work with people, learn about things, learn about systems. Read.

5) While you have to market yourself, your attitude should always be that you CAN contribute to any organization, and if they don’t hire you, well, even the best Marketer in the world can’t sell to everybody. Pick yourself up and find your next “customer”. Perserverance.

So first take a look at your likes and dislikes. Do not just finish any degree without focus. I know I did that and it will hurt you. Pick a useful degree and finish that one. Lucky for you all areas in the world have a business department so a degree is Business is excellent. Lets say you like working with people, then there is an option of management or training or human resources, maybe you like numbers, analysis or audit (some companies prefer accounting degrees but you can still have that option with a business degree). Look at the state, county and city web sites where you live and put in business degree. You will find such a large list of options all you have to do is search and choose. Basically you are finishing a well ranged degree that is still high in demand. You could even work in corporate for blockbuster if you like. Pick an area, you will get there. Good luck and also talk to your college business department they can help you narrow down a specific local position as well.

Many. It just depends on what you are interested in. Do you plan to stay in your small town, or is moving to a city an option for you? Obviously, if the latter is a possibility, you will have more choices. I am a marketing professor, and in the past two weeks alone, I’ve collected so many job ads for entry-level people at respected companies in my area that I filled a large binder completely and had to take out the earlier jobs in order to put in new ones. And that is just in marketing in my city. It ignores all the other areas of business and any other part of the country. You can work for a large corporation with a training program or you can work for a smaller business as an assistant or coordinator. You can go into sales, or you can analyze the financial condition of the company. You might want to talk to someone in your college’s career services office about taking an aptitude test, so that you can narrow down your options a little.

What about starting your own business? Find something that you are good at and interested in and create a career around that. One thought is that you could open your own video store, which would be better than working for a big corporation.

Remember, if you still don’t know what to do and want to put off living in the real world for awhile there is always grad school.

My advice. Stay with the major you have the most credits in and just get that degree. Many people never work in the field of their degree. Schools have lots of recruiters coming to the career center to interview students before they graduate. Go and talk to some of these people even if you are not interested in the specific job.

Experience and a real degree is all that you need to go shopping for a job. Stick with your major – graduating is the key now. Once you do that, you can begin the search. Go to job fairs or on-campus recruitments. You can learn about the options available and hopefully an interest will be sparked!
