What should I major in?

Hi. I can’t decide what to major in. I am a junior in high school right now. I like history, science, and math. I like to read, and write, and speak/voice my opinions. Are there any majors that might suit all or most of my likes? Thanks

To be honest, I highly doubt that you will figure this out within the next 2 or 3 years. Picking majors, choosing career paths… these involve preferences that most people can’t develop until they take college-level courses and learn more about the field itself, let alone the material.

History, science, math, reading, writing and persuasive communications… let’s see… that encompasses almost every major in existence.

You’re young, and you’re doing great if you enjoy all those things. It’s also good that you’re inquisitive about what to do next. My advice is to just keep exploring and put forth effort in every endeavor, but don’t expect to come to your answer anytime soon.

Something that makes money. If you’re good at science, go to med school like all my smart friends. Since we’ve graduated they’re making a killing at residencies and stuff, and they get to save people. How cool is that?

I majored in English, work at a 7/11 and can’t pay my 50k in student loans, the interest of which is slowly accumulating like a tumor, or the cholesterol lining some vital artery to my credit history.

Being able to make up similes on demand is SO not worth it. Seriously, do it for the money.

you pretty much listed everything, history math science and english. i think that you would have to ask yourself another question as to where you see yourself fitting in better. just because you like something doesn’t mean that it will click right away. when you enter college you don’t have to declare a major right away, take classes from each section and then which ever one you like most look more into. when i was a junior in high school i really didn’t knwo where i wanted to end up, i was between business and law school. now im a junior in college studying business management/marketing and minoring in business law. if you know around where you want to be then look more into those areas.

I would suggest that you take a test that looks not at your skillset but at what motivates you–it’s more important to learn if you want to help people directly –say as a therapist or doctor, or if you are goals oriented and perhaps should look at business, etc etc. Take what you motivation is and then marry it to what you like in your studies. You will have the ability to get a job that you like to go to, not just a job you are good at, after you graduate.
