What’s the best subject to major in at college or university that will prepare you for medical school?
Favorite Answer
Really though, you can major in anything as long as you meet the degree requirements for your major AND medical school requirements. For instance, I know some people who are pre-med but majoring in psychology. They have to take all their psychology classes PLUS pre-med classes (which usually include general chemistry, general biology, organic chemistry, and biochemistry). This is a pretty ambitious thing to take on.
If you want to be REALLY ambitious, major in something like spanish or another humanities-type major along with fulfilling pre-med requirements. Med-schools will see that you’re well-rounded and will appreciate your hard work.
If you just want to stick to basic science though I would recommend chemistry because you take more advanced math and physics classes than do biology majors and you get more experience in the lab and with writing scientific papers.
