what’s it like having online classes?

I’m taking them this fall and just wanted to get some feedback and experiences from people who know about it or might be taking online classes or have done so in the past. Is it more easier? Harder? Was it right for you? Do you have to sign on to do stuff there on a schedule or can you do it on your own schedule and pace? What’s it like and how difference would it be from actually going to the campus to go to the classes?

I have taken several general education courses online such as basic college writing, economics, government, and history. I found that while the assignments generally seemed easier than at a brick and mortar college class, if you have trouble it is often harder because the lack of fellow students and easy access to the instructors for help.

I have had expereience where part of the class(homework, quizzes, exams…etc.)have been online and I really didn’t care much for it. Yes there is the convinience of being able to do all that wherever and just about whenever you want to, but there’s the risk of computer failure. At one school I went to online courses were still very new and many of the instructors didn’t check and grade anything online, so everyone taking those classes failed. The classes I have taken have been hybrid classes, which was great because if I did have a problem I could go talk with the instructor. Most assignments and that have time constraints, just like with regular homework so you do have somewhat of a schedule to follow. I think online classes are good for if you’re working and don’t have the time to attend classes the same times everyday, or if you have children and do not yet have a sitter or daycare provider, or if you can’t get to the campus, but my advice would be to make sure that there is someone you can talk to at the school in case you do encounter problems. One great thing about online courses is that you can do the work while in your pajamas, and if you have a laptop then while you’re in bed, or at a park, or cafe where as with regular on campus courses you’re normally in the same classroom or lecture hall everytime you go to that class.

I take a lot of universal class classes. You don’t get a degree or anything but I have learned a lot and I work on my classes when I have spare time and I am not rushed to get done. I work on my own schedule and I really enjoy it.
