What is wrong with this quote?

“It is the province of logic to tell why a reasoning is false. It is the business of sociology to explain its wide acceptance.”

Is it a bad argument ?or a fallacy, if its a fallacy which kind can you be specific and why?

My professor doesn’t like this quote and I want to know why?

I don’t think it has anything to do with argument, it has to do with poor word choice.

One thing I would do, to improve the quality of the words you use in the quote is to look up a thesaurus online and replace some of them…like “tell” “reasoning”

“its” in the second sentence doesn’t make any sense – “its” here refers back to the subject in the sentence – sociology. So it sounds like “the reason for sociology is to explain sociologies wide acceptance”…does that make sense? I am sure you are refering to the subject in the first sentence when you say “its” in the second sentence.

It is the province of logic to explain why a _______ is false. It is the business of sociology to explain _______ wide acceptance.

And quite honestly, while the sentences sound very smart, I don’t see how the province of logic has anything to do with sociology at all..I think province needs to be replaced also. If I knew exactly what you were trying to say, I could help more… feel free to email me a more in depth explanation. Some times writing it out in a paragraph makes it easier to pare it down.
