What is the usual maximum number of credits that you can transfer to a university?

There’s a maximum number of credits that you can transfer to a university, what is it usually? Also, if you go over that maximum, what happens?

You can take as many as you want, but generally only 60 will transfer. And that’s if all 60 actually transfer. I had 62 credits at my old school and only 52 transferred.

Generally, you can transfer up to 3/4 of the required number of credits to graduate, if you transfer from another 4-year university, and 1/2 the required number of required credits if you came from a community college or other 2-year program.

I transferred just over 100 hours, but I agree that it probably depends on the school and how the individual credits will transfer. For example, many of the credits for my major at my former school would only transfer as electives at my new school. If you’re thinking about transferring a lot of classes, you should check into the school you are transferring to and make sure of what will count as credits toward a major and what will count as electives.

I had 80 something credits… when I transfered I got to keep 62… I think it just depends on the school and what classes they are willing to take!
