What is done at orientation for college?

The college I am going to be attending is having orientation this week and I was wondering what would all be going on there during this orientation?

Do I have to go?

Typically orientation is required for all incoming Freshmen and some upper class men new to the school to get them familiar with the college environment. They show around the school, explain the different buildings, answer questions that will help you acclimate to the role of college student. They usually show you the study labs and give you schedules that pertain to them. They offer advice to help you with things like homework and study habits. They usually have you meet with an adviser so that you can create your schedule. They will help with financial aid if needed. They also help set up anything you might need like I.D. cards, parking passes, and anything else required by them. Basically orientation is done to help one grow from the role of high school student to college student. Orientation also usually offers fun events, just to sort of help you meet new people and get used to the school.

The orientation is just an informational thing. They’ll probably put you in a auditorium and explain policy, and rules and give suggestions for success. They might give you a tour of campus. It’s a just go with the flow they’ll tell you what to do kind of thing. Starting actual school is harder but remember like a third of the students are new and just as nervous as you. Look for friendly faces and ask for help if you get lost or confused. Most students remember what it was like when they were new. It’s like every thing new the first day is the hardest and each day after gets easier. I went to the school before classes started and hunted down all my classes or at least the building they were in. That way I wasn’t as worried. Good luck. I bet once you relax a little you’ll go great and love it.

Student Doctor House
Generally, there is an assembly where general information is discussed, such as parking issues, financial aid. Then, they usually show you around campus. Often, student identification cards are made at this time (at least the picture for it), and you are given computer codes, etc. that you need. At my college’s orientation, they did registration at the end, but you said your registration is at the end of the week. I don’t know for a fact that is what will happen, but good luck!

Orientation is more for you. Its to have the kids kind of mingle before hand so they get to know each other. And, for the couselors to kind of lay down the rules of the dorm and stuff like that.
