What is a good career to get into that pays good ?

In the past four months of work I have interviewed a few thousand young people fresh or 4 years out of high school and I found that the most secure for future work were the ones in the basic Trades! I found that hundreds were like you, however, not knowing what they were going to do. Some traveled, some went straight into work, every one was different.
If you want security.. no joke.. consider plumbing or electrician or one of these jobs. There is a serious need as the older generation retires and in a few years the work will be falling to the new ones smart enough to take their apprenticeships now.
Apprenticeships are great and the cost is minimal… at least in Canada it is so.
Two of my brothers, university educated, went into basic carpentry for example because they LOVED working with their hands. Both now are very very successful contractors working in a field far from their original dreams. Both are also very wealthy btw… so it is a matter of passion as well.
If you want to sink a bunch of $$ into university, dentistry is big. It is a bit of a crap shoot, speak to some professional counsellors because uni is too costly to not have a specific goal in mind. Have you considered trying to do something in the Peace Corps or some international agency where you travel to other countries, do some work to help the local poor and return home with perhaps a greater sense of self?
In our town there are agencies where you can take all sorts of aptitude tests Give it a try.
Sometimes you go to uni with no idea of a goal. Or you KNOW. However, during your studies new avenues open up and you can end up where you never expected. This happened to my daughter. She went in to become a Math teacher and instead they offered her a scholarship and stipend for her Ph.D in computer sciences! She HATES computers to talk on.. but loves playing “under the hood”.
You know you will never get a really good answer in here… just ideas. You are so lucky to have your life ahead to plan for… make the most of it….
Just make sure it is something you love and feel passion for ~ if possible.. It would be a crime to study law then find you would rather be a carpenter. I see some tell you you need a very high education. Yes but this depends upon your choice and if you wish the debt load that can also effect your lifestyle when you are graduated. There are so many options to weigh.
And I will tell you now, in this world, you do NOT want to rack up a huge debt because this throws you into instant slavery to the banks, something you wish to avoid at all costs if possible. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose.
You don’t look that smart, so you probably have mediocre grades and you defiantly did not score super good on the SATs, and you probably did not pass any AP tests, not a national merit scholar, and your after school was spent watching TV. That’s cool…oh wait you kind of need all that plus a lot more to get into college..shoot what do we do now.
Jr. college is a good place for people to get their GE out of way, especially if they’re broke and/or stupid. So if you’re just starting to look into your future, junior college would have to be your first step. Cause its not like you can go and apply to Harvard right now. I’d try the JC system for GE and then transfer to a 4 year university.
You won’t make good money without college.
Computer programming is a good choice, always in demand.
Investment banking will pay some big dollars, more than lawyers and doctors!
Contractors and Subcontractors can make big dollars. Once you are the boss.. cha-ching!
Just my advice but look for a fun job that lets you travel the world and do not worry about money. Usually you will find money by doing what you love.
A government job pays excellent with….most importantly, pay raises after retirement.
Fire fighter, police are the best choice. Don’t believe me? Check out their houses and toys!!
