In the U.S. the usual preparation is an undergraduate degree — usually with an emphasis on, rather than math and science courses, those concerned with history, government, political science, etc. However, good grades in just about anything “substantive”, plus a favorable LSAT result will work well, generally.

A bit of advice from one who has “done” and taught law — law school is quite challenging, and stressful. The material is not easy to master, and, often, the “atmosphere’ is filled with ego and competition, so to speak. It is best if you safeguard your health and well being via exercising regularly and meditating, and doing other stress reduction “work”.

I explained this aspect of the reality of “law studenting” to my pupils: “many enter here at age 22, and finish 3 years later at 55.” Then i would explain the virtues of what i have noted above. Moreover, you will definitely be much more effective in your studies if you DO take time out for the “counterbalance”. Many couldn’t grasp the sense in that, to their detriment, alas. Best of luck :))

( Btw, after graduating from law school, there is passing the bar exam, of course, before you are officially “there”. Additionally, there are graduate law programs available in certain specialized areas, tax for example, leading to the masters in law degree.

Most practicing attorneys do not undertake graduate study ; but, of course, it can be a great help, depending on your goals)
