What does a college see for high school? (grading period grades, semester grades, or other…etc.)?

Does a college see just GPA for the semester, specific grading period, or other type of grades? Also, what is better: IB or AP? (international baccalaureate or advanced placement courses as an impression for college if you want to go into a career such as law or medicine, for example Harvard University, ap or ib? and what kind of grades do they see?)

Colleges see every thing on your transcript. They don’t know what your grade was on your poetry recital, but they know what you got in English class in 11th grade.

Colleges see all your grades-they get a full transcript, and look at what type of classes you were taking (AP, non AP etc), and what grades you got in individual classes, as well as your overall GPA.

As for the difference between IB or AP-We don’t have IB where I am from, but AP classes always look better on a transcript than regular classes do-providing that you still get at least a B in the class (it is better to get an A in a regular class than a C in an AP!!!). Having these upper level classes will help you get into a good school.

I would suggest taking classes that are going to have some effect on your major-for example if you are interested in going into medicine. Take Anatomy and Physiology as a science credit in high school. My high school offered a class called Street Law for those that were interested in going into law. Colleges will notice these classes on your transcript and see that you are already interested in a field of study-and that will reflect well on you.

Good luck!!!
