What career should I pick for college…?

I am a Junior in High School and I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. I am a person who likes mathematics a lot, likes having fun and at the same time like mysterious things. So far I was thinking of being a forensic mathematician. A forensic mathematician is one who apply mathematics in solving crime cases. But I read this article saying that in 5 years there would be less job available for mathematicians and more competition into getting one. I want to know what are some careers you think would best fit me. By the way I would like a job that would pay me at least 80,000 per year.

Thanks.

I recommend majoring in Biochemistry. You will be well-suited with you aptitude for math. You will probably go through one year of Calculus and your analytical skills will help you in the sciences.

If you are interested in crime cases, you could become a forensic scientist. This only takes a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry. You may be able to intern with the Department of Justice while you are in your Junior or Senior year of school … that will set you up for a job as soon as you graduate.

Also – with this degree, you could make good money as a Scientist just about anywhere. The jobs are, and will be plentiful all over the country.

Very importantly: if you are interested in a job working with crime cases, you will have a background investigation prior to getting hired. This is the right time for you to understand you must keep your record clean. Do not do ANY illegal substances (drugs) or get in any trouble with the law. You will have to answer questions pertaining to this for the rest of your life, so keep yourself clean starting now.

You will do great! Have fun in school and I wish you the best.

I love the idea of becoming a forensic mathematician. Mathematics is not an exciting science in and of itself- but, this sounds pretty exciting to me. Go for it!

I think the field of architecture comes to mind, or some kind of engineering (mechanical engineering). Both of these fields pay well and if you love math then you should probably consider either of the two. If that doesn’t work try taken some personality test to actually see what other fields may interest you. Hope this helps.
