What can you tell me about college?
Thanks in advance,

From what you’ve posted, you’ve done great in High School. I assume you have pretty good study habits in order to keep such wonderful grades. As long as you keep that good work ethic and not slack off (too much *wink wink*), you’re going to do fine.
Taking AP tests does help out. If you take the AP exam and score 3’s or better, you might be eligible for college credit. For example, if you take an English Lit AP exam, and pass with a score of a 4, you won’t have to take an English lit class as part of your general education requirements in college. Many colleges have different requirements for credit. Some accept a 3 score for credit, others may require a 4 for credit. In either case, it’s MUCH cheaper to take an AP exam, and pass and get credit, than to pay close to 300 dollars or more for the “same” class in college. Also, another advantage is HIGH school teachers are ALWAYS more available for you to ask for help. In college, you have a professor that doesn’t really care if you understand, and office hours that may be difficult to meet. With a high school teacher, teaching an AP class, they’re a lot more willing to make sure you understand the material for the AP test.
(I was able to get 7.0 credits from AP exams)
As for laptops and tape recorders… It’s really all up to the teachers discretion. Also be sure to take the professor BEFORE you record them, because a lot of them are not comfortable with that “liability.” Laptops can be VERY helpful, but I wouldn’t say they are a total necessity. If you like typing out notes, you can do that in class.
Now, to calm your fears, You seem to be a GREAT student. Don’t worry about flunking out!! You’ve done so wonderful in high school. Keep a postive outlook on life! Always remember to get help with concepts you dont’ understand right away, because the more your procrastinate, the harder it is to catch up.
Good luck now. Keep your chin up!!
Certain professors allow tape recorders, some do not. It depends on the professor.
If you take the AP test at the end of the year, and you get a certain score you will not have to take the class in college again. (If not, then you already have good practice for it).
good luck!
The only reason you are here asking these questions is demonstrative of what makes you successful as a student where others struggle.
Forget about tape recorders. For your purposes, tape is dead. You may want to take a pocket voice-recorder, digital, that is (smaller than a pack of cigarettes), and probably should.
If I were you (you may wonder about my motives), I wouldn’t let it be generally known that the voice-recorder is the reason I seem to remember every word the professor says, verbatim.
Remember, your classmates will one day be your competitors. Be sure to keep your eye on your fellow ‘A students.’
Think competitive advantage.
College is not anything like your High School years. College is an institution for Higher Learning, and the free exploration and expression of IDEAS, learned and incorporated.
Colleges are supposed to help you understand the REAL WORLD’S economic, political, and international institutions. Thus paving the way for you to make ‘informed decisions’ in every aspect of your post college years, and adulthood.
So my friend, take your time and wait until you get there, to familiarize yourself with the institution’s many departments, faculties, and fellow students.
And the sophomore year is the time to do these Preliminary things.
