What can I do w/ a Masters in Education?

I’m currently a stay at home mom, but I work part time at my son’s preschool. Once he starts school full-time I’m going to get my teaching certificate (for grades EC-4) and Masters in Education (I have an undergrad in marketing). I plan on teaching elementary school for a few years so my son and I can have the same schedule, but eventually I’d like to move out of the classroom. I’d really like to do something like curriculum design or even get my PhD and teach at the college level, but none of the local universities currently offer a PhD program like that…only one designed for superindendents. I’m really interested in child psychology and how children learn, but I’m not especially interested in trying to become a psychologist. Does anyone else had a M.ed? Does this sound like I’m on the right path for what I want to do? What are you doing with your degree? Thanks for any input!

I don’t think getting an MEd would hurt, but I’m not sure it will get you what you want. If you want to be a school psychologist you will need a state certification and specialist-level degree (usually around 60 post-bac credits). Some school psychology programs will give you a MEd or MS in addition to getting you the certification.

How about becoming a principal at a school. Once you get your degree put your name in the applican’t pool for administrative positions. My friend did this recently and she is making $90,000 a year being the pricipal of a school.
