The “best” excuses are if you are truly sick (and have a note from the doctor to prove it), a relative died, or you were in a car accident. However, the professors will appreciate it if you tell them the truth–honesty is the best policy. They are intelligent people and will know if you are lying.

You do not need an excuse. The instructors do not care if you show up or you don’t show up. They also do not care if you pass their course or you don’t. I took a course at college that I went to only to get the assignments and take the tests. I passed with flying colors.
But if you must have an excuse. Tell them that you had the stomach bug. That you were in the bathroom all night and day when you start going into details they will tell you that is okay and let it go,

why do you want to be excused? But if you think you have to miss the class, just tell the teacher before you do that. Honesty is always good. Teachers like that in students.

It depends on what the teacher will accept. When I went to college, many didn’t care whether we came to class or not. It was our grade, our future, our problem. I understand it’s different now. Ask the prof; unless the school has a policy, I imagine it’s up to them.

I had this one student for two semesters- her grandmother died, her aunt had cancer and had surgery, her dad had a heart attack, then he had a stoke, grandpa died, her step mother died, etc……
At the end of the year I mentioned to her that I was hoping she had someone at her graduation as most of her family passed on that year…. She had not realized just how many excuses I saw through……

make no excuse unless it’s true. the best thing to do is ahead of time, let your instructor know you will not be in class tomorrow. simple as that. say to teacher, i am not able to be here tomorrow. i’ll see you the day after.
