Voluntering in Hospital?

I volunteer in a small Medical Office Building, owned by a small hospital in Maine. I wanna go to med school. Will this look good on my application, of would volunteering in the actual hospital itself look better?

Any sort of voluntary work will look good on your application, as long as you can show what you have learnt from it and how it will make you a better doctor. I suggest you get some actual medical volunteer work (like working with disabled kids once a week) and also some medical work experience- shadowing a doctor or nurse at a hospital. This will demonstrate to them that yes, you know how difficult it is being a doctor, your commitment, and the fact that you realise that even though there are other medically related proffesions, being a doctor is for you

(I was asked at my interview- why not a nurse?)

good luck

The intent of volunteer work is to demonstrate that you have been exposed to the realities of patient care and that you do not have some romanticized ideation of what medicine is about. Therefore, the more patient care oriented the setting the better. Stated another way, carrying lab samples is going to look better than pushing paperwork.

Medical-related volunteer experience look good on your application for medical school. Keep in mind, you will need a diversified portfolio of experience. So, look for experiences that will let you learn outside of your comfort zone.

Good luck!

ANY experience in a medical setting is likely to look favorably on your application. What will make more of a difference would be what you actually were doing in these setting, if your doing clerical tasks, it wont make much difference.
