Vaccines required for nursing school?

I would love to become a LPN or an RN.However 3 series of Hep. B shots are required. I do not want to take the vaccinations due to all the negative things I have read on vaccinations. This is my personal opinion. I realize everyone must do what they believe is best for them.

My questions is: Is there a way around this? I know it’s common knowledge that vaccinations are “required” to enter in schools like elementry etc. In reality a child can go to school unvaccinated with a waiver. Could I get one for myself?

If you are in the medical field I will value your input!

At my school, the hepatitis B vaccine is optional. In normal circumstances you will be able to sign a waiver against it. The only issue is when it comes to clinical time. Hospitals all have different policies in regards to vaccines. Your best bet is to ask the school you’re interested in.

Of course you can decline the vaccination and odds are you will be asked to sign a declination statement to safeguard the institution.

I’m certainly aware of the controversies related to infant and child vaccines and if you were concerned about your child I wouldn’t challenge you at all, as it is your choice. But you should reread the literature available, as most contraindications and complications are related to child vaccines. You, as a 29 year old, presumably healthy with no prior history, should not have any adverse affects. If you do enter the medical field, you’re entering the high risk career for Hep B and you ought to do whatever you can to lessen that risk.

But you don’t have to make a ‘final decision’. Sign the waiver, learn from your professors and then make a better informed decision.

If youre allready in grade school you most likely allready had the vaccination (unless you had a waiver). Instead of reading the possible side effects of the vaccination, have you read the possible effects of Hep-B or TB? Either way you are taking a chance. In my opinion, not having the vaccination has a higher chance of illness than having it. Remember what you are going to school for, to help people. The people you will be helping are not going to be in the best of shape health wise.

Perhaps when you complete your nursing education you will have a better understanding of the value of vaccines and be less afraid of taking them.
