To say that Wharton’s undergraduate actuarial science program is not as good as its general business program is not too much of a negative — as its business program is the best in the world.

Most US schools do not have an undergraduate degree in Actuarial Science — but instead have a concentration of courses that include mathematics, statistics, economics and finance classes.

In the US you would be better off going to a top school that does not have a degree in actuarial science and taking the right classes than you would to go to a school that has the degree.

Wharton should be very high on your list. If you can get in there — go.

I know of many students at The Ohio State University who are majoring in actuarial science so you may want to check the school out. UIllinois at Urbana-Champaign, Penn State, UConn, and Purdue offer it. but hey, if you get into UPenn, go for it. it’s an all-around top-notch school.
