teacher recommendations?

I looked at some of the rec letter requirements on the common application, and the schools just list like the number of recs required (1 Teacher Evaluation) and don’t specify teachers of certain fields…so I’m just wondering do the type of teachers matter? I’m gonna ask my english teacher for sure, but would my orchestra teacher in school count too? Because some people say you must have a math/english teacher (or an ACADEMIC teacher), and that orchestra/band do not count for teacher recs

Also, do foreign language teachers count as academic teachers for these recs? Thanks!!

Any teacher is ok…it doesn’t matter who you ask as long as they work at your school. However, if you are planning to apply, say, as an engineering major, then it would be helpful if you had your Calculus teacher write your recommendation. Same thing if you were applying as a journalism major, then it might be beneficial for your application to have you AP English teacher write your recommendation.

So, while you can get anyone to write your recommendation, it would be a good idea to really think about which teacher would help out your application as much as possible. On your application, if you have orchestra as one of your extra-curriculars, and on your application you say that you plan on joining the school’s orchestra, it might be best to have your orchestra teacher write your recommendation.

Good Luck
