Taking med school science pre-reqs?

I am trying to take the science pre-reqs for med school. I received my bachelors in Finance from the University of Central Florida and I would be taking the classes there. I would be taking Biology 1, Chemistry 1, and Physics 1, all with labs, together this fall, and I would be taking Biology 2, Chemistry 2, and Physics 2, all with labs together this spring. Do you think this is an unachievable course load? My dad is concerned that I am taking 3 science classes with labs that are normally pretty hard and time consuming all together. But my reasoning is that it will probably be easy as cake compared to all the work I’ll have to do in med school. I had a 3.825 GPA and all my friends say I’m the smartest person they know (and we were in gifted and honors classes together throughout school, so they aren’t exactly dumb). Any thoughts on whether this course load is unrealistic or not?

Definitely not impossible. It will be some hard work, but you’ll find that a lot of the concepts cross over and reinforce themselves between the classes, so that’s helpful. You will certainly have to keep up with things so that if you are having any difficulties you can get help sooner rather than later. Also, make sure that you’re realistically evaluating yourself — if it proves to be too difficult, drop one of the classes rather than have your grades in all of them suffer. On the plus side, if you can get As in all of these classes at the same time, that will look very, very good on your application.

Best of luck to you!

up to you completely. if you think you can do it then you can do it. you did not mention Organic chemistry you need that and since your a finance major I don’t know if you took Analytical geo with calculus applications one and 2?

Good luck…….

P.s Keep in mind that for med school your science GPA is the most important thing and recommendations from the science teachers so make sure you get A+ in those classes.

UCF ehe? I got in there. but I decided not to go because I have a 75% bright futures so it is 100% at a community college so I am going to go to CC for 2 years first. I live in St. Augustine btw. thats like 2 hours from Orlando.

It might be difficult to do the course work, but if you have already graduated, all you have left to do is medical school prerequisites. So it can be done. Since you only appear to be taking three classes, everything should work out alright. I think you could get fatigued from taking three courses in the same sort of field of thinking, though.
