Stay at Baruch College or go to Indiana University…..what should i do!??!?

I can either stay at Baruch College and graduate on time with a 3.5 gpa which is ok. Or I can graduate from Indiana University a year to a year and a half later, be a couple of thousand in debt, but I would automatically have more opportunity in getting into a top MBA program when I’m older. What should I do?!! thanks

It is really up to you — but you are right to think that someone with a degree from Indiana has a better shot at getting into a top MBA program than someone from CUNY. But if you have the right work experience, the Baruch degree won’t hurt you that much.

Indiana is a much better school — but only you can decide if that difference is worth an extra year.

As for “getting to start your GPA over” — that is a myth. Any B-School you apply to will want your transcript from Baruch as well as Indiana. The good news is that your GPA will be fine at any school. GPA is less important for getting into an MBA program than in getting into an academic program. A 3.5 or better is all you need (as long as everything else is high quality).

I see no reason why your going to Indiana U, versus CUNY Baruch, would make any difference in terms of your being admitted to a top MBA program. So long as your school is appropriately accredited – and Baruch is, and it has a solid academic reputation – which it does, and you take an academically rigorous courseload, and get good grades, you’ll be fine. Of course, you’ll have to do well on your GMATs, and you’ll need a couple of years of quality work experience, plus good essays, etc… Still, I don’t see that there’s a real advantage to transferring to Indiana U.

Unless, of course, Indiana is a top five or ten college in your major, and Baruch is known to suck in that major (but I doubt that). And even then, I’m not sure that you’ll be getting the boost you think you will.

Why do you think that going to Indiana, rather than Baruch, would help with your admissions?

Indiana has, as you know, one of the most well respected business schools in the US, but as with all things in life… there’s a cost associated with this one. What you have to do is figure out if the cost here (money and time) is worth the potential gain that may accompany the prestige of the IU degree.

My opinion… Prestige is temporary. You’re right that IU on your transcript will impact your job opportunities and/or grad school applications. But very shortly thereafter, you’ll have to be able to show on your resume accomplishments from AFTER college. All the prestige in the world won’t matter if you don’t succeed in the years between undergrad and your MBA (if you go out and work awhile first).

Good luck either way.

well i dont know the differance between the two but if your credits dont transfer stay honestly it will make you a stronger peron I have change schools 3 times and wish I stayed at the 1st one instead of keep running away of a weird situation or just not really feeling it. but i guess it depends on your reasons your thinking of changing. if you are just hating it then leave you dont wanna be going through hell ya know.
