Should I stay with what I LOVE to do as a career or should I try to get to where?

the money is on jobs? I work as a day care provider and really LOVE my job. I was thinking of going to college to get my teacher degree and work in the schools to make more money but college is so expensive and I cannot afford it. I can get loans but they are so hard to pay off. Been there once and done that. I have about two years to go to finish my teaching degree. I work in a day care that is part of the school system so I have the same benefits and retirment as the teachers but of course the pay is less. What do you think? Thank you. 🙂

If teaching is what you love to do, then I would suggest just taking a class at a time at night or whatever you can afford and finishing off your degree. It may take a little longer but it’s easier than having to worry about paying off a bunch of student loans. On the other hand, my personal opinion is that you should always pick a career that you enjoy and love. Money should never be the deciding factor. If you pick a career based on money, chances are in the future you won’t love what you do. You will always be a much happier person if you have a career or a job that you love.

I don’t know a lot about day care or teaching, but it seems as though they require some of the same types of skills. In other words, I think both jobs are compatible with each other.

I encourage you to get your teaching degree (education degree) because that will give you more options. Day care will always be there because that is a service that will always be needed.

Get your teachers degree because education is something that no one can take away from you, and as I mentioned it will give you more options.

You will have the option to work in the schools, or work in day care, or do both.

As far as paying for college, I would recommend that you seek out scholarships. There are many scholarships that you may qualify for. Talk to a financial aid counselor at the university you plan to attend, and ask about general scholarships, as well as scholarships for education majors.

Also, talk to some people in the education field because they may be aware of scholarship funds for education majors.

I don’t know your gender or ethnicity, but there are also some scholarships that are specific to gender and ethnicity. Check out all of the possibilities.

If you have to take out a school loan, make sure you get the best interest rate. Again, talk to a financial aid advisor.

I would recommend getting your teacher degree (certification, etc.) because it will open up more possibilities for you, and you can always be a day care provider if you should ever decide that you don’t want to teach.

You may even want to open up your own day care center some day, and that teacher degree will add positively to your credentials.

I wish you well.

Okay you started a degree and stopped so that was your career goal once! I would go back.

There are teacher loan programs that pay a portion of your loans for every year you work in a school classified as “disadvantaged”. Even if you decide not to teach you could become lead teacher at a day care center.

I would say you don’t get the same retirement as teachers as retirement is based upon a % of your income and your income is less. So you are not making this choice for the rest of your working life but for old age as well.

This is a decision you need to make based on your personal financial situation, and whether having more money might make you happier than your current job does.

You should be aware, though, that most federal loans programs have load forgiveness conditions for teachers under certain circumstances – teaching in an impoverished district, teaching math, science or foreign language, and teaching special education. If any of these might apply to you, you need not worry about paying the loans back. You should check all the details on how this works, since you might need types of loans that don’t get forgiven, but it’s certainly something of which you should be aware.

Happiness is the ultimate decider. You only have one lifetime, so why not enjoy it the best you can? As long as you’re making enough to live, you’re fine.

Seriously, there’s nothing worse than getting up in the morning dreading the day ahead. It’s absolutely critical to the quality of you life that you actually like what you do.

Besides, the loans will be hell to pay back with a teacher’s salary. For many years you’ll most likely be where you are now. That doesn’t seem worth it to me.

I would say follow your bliss, the $ or energy will. If you do what you love you are getting paid twice in a way. If you are into teaching children then $ is not your motivation anyway. It is a tuff choice though when you live around the “if you are so smart , how come youre not rich” attitude that is everywhere. You have to live with yourself, if they are so smart how come they dont “live and let live”. You will be alright, the world needs good teachers. A good job is its own reward I like to say. A full heart does not build equity, but it feels good and then you are truly valuable to people and $ comes. Be strong.

When my father retired from the post office after working there for 40 years he gave me this bit of advice: : Work doing what you love, or your life willl be miserable. ” I have always remembered that bit of sage advice and have heeded it.

Having said that, if you love working in the day care system, continue doing t hat. If you have the heart to work with special needs children, take some classes in that area. Teachers who assist special needs children are exempt from paying back some loans. Contact your financial aid office at your school to see which loans this applies to. That may make your choice and situation easier.

Good luck

If you love what you’re doing why change? You can get your degree along, no need to foot the expense all at once – the college won’t be going anywhere.

Getting your education doesn’t mean you have to stop doing what you’re doing – it just means you’ll have more options and credentials should you need them in the future.

Write down on paper your goals and if working as a teacher is the top one then go to college.

You also got to consider if you want to go to college itself as some people would prefer not to go to college.

Make sure you are at least happy with what you are doing, that is the most important thing.

well teaching is not the same as daycare. You might not like it. why not save all your money and eventually open up your own day care center. start off small. youl probably make lessmoney but youll be happy
