Should I move out of state to California to go to grad school?

I grew up and live in Mass and I’m currently in college. But I’m interested in going to grad school in CA. I found the perfect school but I don’t know if i should go. I have no friends or family in CA, so it’ll be just me. I would have to move all my stuff cross country. How would I do that and get started in at campus?

It depends on the school. For example if it is a UC school, Stanford or Cal Tech — then you should. But if it is a CSU school, then it wouldn’t be worth it.

Lots of East Coast people thrive in California. Personally, I hated it (I got my PhD at UC-Berkeley). Loved the school and the summer weather — hated nearly everything else.

Absolutely. The colleges in CA are amazing and you should definetely take this oppurtunity to meet new people and advance your career. It’s worth it to sell what you can in Mass and start over again in CA. I grew up in LA county and know that there is so much to do out there that you will never get bored especially if you are living in a college town. Good luck!

Apply to the school of your choice and if you are accepted, just hold your breath and jump.

Life is short. Live and learn. It is true that you only live once. Just make sure that you like the school. You can always relocate once you are finished.

Lots of people choose graduate schools in different states. That makes for an exciting future to look back on later.

You don’t have to know everything…just know that you have been accepted, can get a job if needed for income, and that you have a phone to call home occasionally.

You can do it!!! good luck..
