Second year at collage, i failed my entry lvl math course..but i was able to register, will i be kicked out?

In my freshman year i did not pass my entry lvl math class, and read/was told that if you fail to do so you will be kicked out of school and forced to take the course at a comminity collage. But i was able to register and have my first class start on the 21st of September. I have already paid for all my classes and i am planing on retaking the entry lvl class i failed….Can they still kick me out of school when school starts and refund my money or am i in the clear for now? I am attending a cal state university.

The colleges I am familiar with, which are NOT in the cal state system, usually require the student to take a “remedial” course so that they meet entry requirements. You may not have been ready for that first semester course. This should be available in the regular department, but you have to request entry to it, and then retake the course you failed, or reschedule the final test in the first semester course. This presumes that the grade hinged heavily on the final test. Your teacher in the course you failed should be able to tell you how much you have to re-do. Sometimes you can retake a test without redoing the course if you failed simply because of feeling sick or being a nervous test-taker. The remedial course, if available and needed, is designed to teach you what your high school failed at. It may not have been your fault you were unprepared for first semester math. In a university not offering remedial course-work, some good students are available as tutors. Inquire if that’s what you need.

After consulting with the department to find out how much “remediation” is needed, and deciding when you’ll take that crucial test again, let your guidance person or the dean of studies know what you’re doing to meet entry requirements.

Best of luck making this process streamlined.

If they told you that you will be kicked out for flunking this course, then that is what will happen.
