Recertification radiologic technologists in the U.S.A.?

Is it an obligatory career requirement for a certified license radiologic technologists to “recertify” every 2 years?

And please explain the reason why?

Please share your source of information

thanks 🙂

In 2005, 38 states certify radiologic technologists. Certification is offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. To be eligible for certification, technologists generally must graduate from an ARRT accredited program and pass an examination. To be recertified, radiographers must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years.

Every two years, RTs must pay a fee and prove they have earned 24 units to continuing education to renew a license. That does not mean you will be asked to take the registry exam again. If you do not renew your license, you cannot legally take x-rays.

As for the why part of your question….I dunno! It costs a significant amount of money to buy CE materials or to attend seminars which in turn give us CE units. I guess the santioning body thinks it makes us more “professional” or “educated”. I disagree. I have rarely learned anything through CE requirements that make me a better technologist. It is more of a big inconvience in my eyes. It costs me money, and in the case of seminars, it takes time out of my weekend, when I would rather be relaxing or playing!

Did you get your source from the ASRT or ARRT website? If not, here are the sites….

You can read about their rational for CEUs! See what you think…..
