It is absolutely impossible to say how much you would make with a business degree. It all depends on the industry and type of work you do, so this is a poor way to compare the professions. Either of these are good degrees, so try to make your decision on other factors and not just money. Which would you be happier with? Might occupational therapy lead to unusual work hours that would cause a problem later in life? Would the flexibility of a business degree (which can be applied in virtually any industry) appeal more to you than the occupational therapy degree, which is less versitile?

If you have a genuine interest in OT, I would go with that. You could always go back later and get an MBA. In addition, OT does offer way more flexibility (in term of work hours) than a business degree would offer. Business is a highly competitive field and is very broad unless you double up with a finance or marketing degree. OT is more specific and has less competition than the business field. With OT, you can choose to work a 40hr wk, part time or even per diem. You also have the choice of working per diem in addition to your 40hr week (if you so choose).

Please keep in mind that you would have to attain a Masters degree to be able to practice OT. Actually, there are some programs where your undergrad degree does not have to be a science based degree in order for you to be accepted into the OT masters program. If you consider one of those programs then you can still get your bachelors in business.

However, you will have to make sure you are still satisfying the pre-req’s for the OT program.

Anyhow, it would be in your best interest to obtain your bachelors degree in a science based field if you plan to pursue a masters in OT.

OT is not only a profession, it is a way of life. It can be very satisfying and fulfilling but can also be frustrating and tiring.

I enjoy the field. Good Luck to you!
