Major in college. Want to come back to small town later! Safe choice? Many interests.?
I love computers so I have a class schedule full for a computer science major. Let me tell you things aren’t looking good for grads of that genre. Unless you live in huge cities, you don’t have a shot.
I love computers, animals, building things, being physical, people, –see I love a lot of things.
What would be a good and safe major that I could move back to my small town(which is in an oil & gas BOOM right now) and make a decent living? in ten years I want to be making at least 60K a year.
I’m bright, and I have two years of college done, but I can probably only put up with about 4 more at the most. This limits it to a master’s degree.
p.s. I also used to want to be a pharmacist but it’s about seven years of college maybe more & that’s too long & I can’t afford it either. I’ve thought about accounting, civil engineering, maybe business-maybe…

I was studying compsci/math as a double major, changed senior year because I hated having to constantly update myself. I changed to Business admin/mrkt and I believe it was a good move. I’d suggest you get a minor in compsci, which gives you a technical background that looks good on paper and go Business Admin, as you can use it in any field albeit a small town or a huge city. Now as far as making money, Compsci and EE generally make the most straight out of college. Here in SoCal, my friends who graduated CS averaged at 72k their first years, now are making between 86-140k a year, some are having their masters paid for by their respective companies.
The business degree is truly universal, it is in every aspect of every business, your only problem is making 60k. I would suggest going and getting your business degree and then getting your MBA, the pay should easily surpass 60k.
Construction! 🙂 I know that sounds pretty lame, but if you own your own business, you can make a LOT of money. You may consider going into architecture. You build, you deal with people, you use computers, you are doing physical work. It’s an idea.
I don’t think I can work animals into anything. You aren’t going to make 60K training or grooming, or being a vet. tech. Veterinarians could certainly earn that, but that is more school than you want.
Accountants will always make good money… sorry but those online programs are not that great. When you know all the things you can write off on your taxes, you are a valuable commodity.
The best way to make your job unique is to make yourself unique. Just try everything that interests you. All jobs have overlapping attributes required, and the more you try, the more range of things you will know at least something about. It makes you a more interesting candidate for hire, which is really important.
