Isn’t attending lecture classes a waste of time?
When you have to read it from the book afterwards. And the prof dont even allow us to open books in class. All we do is sleep in class or play games on phone.

I spent my undergrad thinking that, and never attended classes.
But then towards the end of my degree I attended a lot more, and exams becae much easier. Yeah sometimes it’s boring as, but hearing someone explain it can be useful particularly if the text book supports what they say, as opposed to having someone just make their lecture up from the book. If it’s the latter then don’t bother, just read the book if you like! (IMHO anyway)

If you read the material ahead, the lectures then become far more interesting. You’ll make intellectual connections and be able to ask questions. Give it a try. You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes.
Sleeping through class is a waste. Why even bother showing up and disrespecting the professor that way? If you want to hand over yearly tuition so you can sleep, by all means. But as classes get harder that is a hard habit to break.

Lectures help you understand the material better and give you a different perspective than the book does. It is not required to attend, but if you want to be serious about your education and get good grades then you should attend.

I dont think its a waste of time. Your professors probably point things out differently or explain differently than the book. You will learn from them if you just open yourself to the possibility of learning from them. No education is waste of time. Take notes in lecture and refer back to them while reading your book. tie the two together.

Perhaps it wouldn’t be a waste of time if you actually paid attention.
