Is this Country better than in 1940?

I am currently taking a history class and during one session, we were talking about what happened to the Japanese when they were put into camps and this one girl said something I could not believe. She said, “I don’t see how we’ve really changed since 1941 with all the racism and everything going on today.” Is she right?

There is still racism, but it’s nothing like as bad as it was back then. Consider the level of rights black people had back them compared with now, especially in the South. There are probably some suspected terrorists whose rights are being violated now, but we haven’t rounded up every American of Arab ancestry and put them in camps, and even the idea of that would be completely intolerable now.
