Is there a way to bend the rules with admissions?

What have you been doing since you got out of highschool? If you’ve been working, that will also help.
Go ahead and look at the web pages for the universities you’re interested in. See what you need to do in order to apply. I think the one piece you seem to be missing right now is the SAT or ACT exams, and since you’ve been out of school for a while, you may want to take a test prep class before you take the exam.
Your first contact with the college should be their admissions department. You may want to arrange to take a campus tour, etc. Schools actually keep that info in your file – that you were interested, when you contacted them, that you visited, etc. It can help. Don’t be too obsessive – don’t call them every day or anything – but do visit, and do call if you have questions.
Again, with your background, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t get into a decent state school. Focus on the SAT/ACT preparation now, and do as well on that test as you can.
And why won’t a Community College work to get started? Space shuttle pilot and mission commander Eileen Collins went to one for two years.
Here in New York, all Community College credits are transferable to any 4-year school in the SUNY (State University of New York) system, including Binghamton University with its Archaeology Department. And they are cheaper.
My advice, stick to you own accomplishments. Your grades and extra curricular activities are just fine to get accepted at the state level. Just apply to a couple school so you have fall back options and can choose from the best one. Good luck!
