Is it true that gender and race play a large role in college admissions?

For instance, I heard that being an Asian female makes it extremely hard to get into a good college, since there are such a high percentage, with White females being under them, then White males, followed by Black females, then Asian males, then Black males and so on. Of course, it could all just be an exaggeration…

Certainly, schools are looking for diversity, so it depends where you’re applying and what race/sex you are vs. all of the applications they’re getting. If they’re looking for certain characteristics to balance against those they’ve already admitted then, yes, it can make a difference. But the same can probably be said of “saxophone players,” for example. If they need one for the band, you might have a better chance if you are one.

Of course, this assumes that you’re qualified to go to the specific school at all. If you’re not, I can’t imagine you’d get in just because of your race and sex.

This isn’t something you really have any control over, though, so I suggest you just focus on the schools you’re interested in and do your best re: grades, scores, etc. to make yourself a desirable applicant.

Yes. If a college or university doesn’t have a certain amount of Asians, Blacks, and Latinos, then they feel that it may show them as being racist. Also, if it is a co-ed college with way more of one gender than another, it may show sexism.

Also, many students do not want to go to a school where they are under-represented, especially minorities, so the college could lose applicants and therefore lose money.

So many asian females? That sounds made up to me. You might want to check your statistics again. I am pretty sure that whites are still the dominant race in this country. Most institutions only have about a 13% Asian community.

easily. you’re silly to no longer think of so. The blacks with vote for Obama only because of the fact of his race, no longer information something approximately his platform. and an excellent kind of older mid-western male electorate won’t even supply Hillary a huge gamble because of the fact she is a woman. however the sturdy information is this election is making it less demanding for the two race and gender to no longer be such a controversy the subsequent time. enable only desire that the candidate that finally ends up representing the democrats do no longer screw it up.
