Is it possible to get a top-scoring essay if you retake the SAT after getting a top score before?

Each test is scored independently of any tests you’ve taken previously.

Even if you take it again and get a lousy score the second time around, don’t worry. When your scores are considered by schools, they only consider the highest score in each section. So no matter how may times you take the test, you will always get credit for your highest math, highest writing, and highest verbal, regardless of when you took them.

However, if you do retake the test in order to pump up just one section, be sure to do your best on the entire test. Schools would look funny at a score report that had say, an outstanding writing score, but a lousy verbal and math score. Know what I mean?

yes most likely. don’t see the reason people would want to do that though. but they do say you score higher your second time aroung.
